![]() In many cases these games will be unfinished or “in development,” but I’m highlighting them because they promise something special and are well worth keeping on the radar. With that in mind, I thought what might be helpful to readers would be if I did a brief write-up of interesting games that I’ve come across on itch.io each week. Discovery is a real issue when great ideas are buried among high school projects and nasty little efforts to scam a quick buck from players. What makes itch.io a little difficult at times is finding things that are interesting to play. It’s a true “art gallery” for game ideas and creative developers, and it should be celebrated for that. In addition, itch.io allows you to be transgressive, subversive, and downright dangerous. The Expression Amrilato / Distant Memoraĵo - highly unique visual novel that also teaches players about Esperanto (a language).I’m a big fan of itch.io for the freedom and open platform that it allows for developers to be creative, experimental, and directly canvas the audience for feedback for games that are not yet ready for primetime on Steam and its ilk. should be good since it's by KOGADO STUDIO, the same devs as Symphonic Rain and the Nurse Love games. next in my to-read list but also going through Utawarerumono at the same time Yumeutsutsu Re:Master / Yumeutsutsu Re:After / Yumeutsutsu Re:Idol - set in a game studio. I personally never got into the series since I had the impression it was more hentai than story but it's definitely worth mentioning Lilycle Rainbow Stage!!! - lots of pairings and a calendar system similar to Kindred Spirits. the last entry, winter, is currently being translated but JAST is reaaaaaally slow (I'm waiting to read them all in one go) A Kiss for the Petals - a staple name among yuri vns. Haven't Played Flowers ( spring - summer - fall) - beautiful art and highly regarded among yuri vns. touches on some interesting topics but otherwise falls flat it's decent but doesn't really stand out among the crowdĮh Blooming Nightshade / Flowering Nightshade - free, but you get what you pay for here. husbando-obsessed otaku office worker falls for spunky high schooler. ebi-hime has a bunch of other yuri vns but I haven't read them yet OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbandos / OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbandos ~Love・or・die~ - school/work setting. the story itself didn't particularly stand out to me but I found the writing style particularly compelling. Okay Blackberry Honey - kinetic, Victorian setting with maids. same developers as Highway Blossoms, which is also supposed to be good but I haven't read it yet ![]() ![]() pretty interesting Heart of the Woods - solid story with supernatural elements. not quite as medical as Syndrome, for better or for worse Fatal Twelve - battle royale + supernatural elements in a modern setting. same universe as Syndrome but effectively standalone. the routes and endings are pretty unique. ![]() I personally enjoyed the medical aspect more than anything else, but this may not be to everyone's tastes Nurse Love Addiction - set in a nursing school. despite the name, it's a pretty grounded novel with a big emphasis on nurse work and medical knowledge. the third part of the series (Eternal Love) and a spin-off haven't been translated yet Nurse Love Syndrome - set in a hospital. not exactly to my tastes, but I'd still highly recommend it to others Symbiotic Love / Melancholy Love - fairly interesting kinetic Chinese yuri vn set in school. this is arguably one of the best yuri vns I've read but it's a slow burn and can be hard to follow at times. Good SeaBed - kinetic "mystery" yuri visual novel. arguably better if you don't read the description and just jump straight into the demo obscure but one of a kind Letters From a Rainy Day -Oceans and Lace- kinetic and short but has great character development/interactions with quality voice acting to tie it all together. the translation is pretty bad, but the story and characters are fantastic. doesn't have routes and instead has players select scenes on a calendar so it's really relaxing Lady in Mystery - super unique mystery/yuri vn set in the Joseon period of Korea. a sweet slice-of-life vn set in school with lots of pairings. Favorites Kindred Spirits on the Roof - my personal favorite yuri vn. ![]()
